March 3, 2008 – A little blue box and the magic candle

March 3 was my birthday… one that I had been feeling a little apprehensive about. This was the day I left my 20’s and became 30.

I do have a few wrinkles on my forehead (I call them my angry marks), I can no longer eat cookies and candy and chips with cheese without paying a severe price, and my hair seems to grow much slower. But now that I have made it here I am not afraid anymore. Like good cheese and wine, I have to believe I will grow better with age.
We decided to go out for Sushi at a great sushi restaurant we had already ate at in Puerto Rico a couple of nights earlier. You can’t visit the ocean without eating sushi… it is so fresh and good! My mouth was watering for it. But first we stopped by for some tapas and a drink… of which our waiter had no idea what a chocolate martini was. They attempted, but not very close.

When we got to the sushi restaurant and ordered our selections they came out on an extravagant bridge all decorated very eccsentrically. I am sad to say I did not take a picture. However, sitting on the bridge plate was the little blue box. A necklace from Tiffany’s I had been dreaming of for a while. Erik said it was worthy of a 30th birthday gift!

At the end of dinner they brought out a piece of chocolate cake and within it one small pink candle.

I closed my eyes and made a wish…
and it came true the very next day.
